For a simple guide to refurbishing the outside of your house, have a read of this.

It is surprising how far a simple clean up can go towards refreshing the look of your home. That’s why the first step to refurbishing the exterior of your home is to get on top of your general outdoor maintenance.

Start by using a power washer to clean down the exterior walls. A pressure washer is perfect for removing any dirt or general grime from your home, making it an ideal way to smarten it up.

Next, move on to your garden. Give your grass a cut, shear your hedges and weed your flower beds. To smarten up your garden even more, you could also add some new plants and shrubs to it. Or, place newly potted plants on your front steps and refresh your gravel driveway with new gravel.

Wipe down your window sills and trim, to make sure they are clean. Once you have cleaned your windows, give your gutter a clean but emptying out any debris and flushing it with water.

Once you have done all your general maintenance jobs, the next step is to work out what you want to change.

If you notice that your property’s paint has become worn or is peeling, it might be a good idea to repaint it. Make sure that when you choose new paint for your home, you keep the colours simple. Ensure you pick a colour that matches your property’s trims and siding. If you choose a colour that is too bright or clashes with other colours already on your property, you may make it look tacky. Instead of using a regular matte paint, why not opt for a long lasting, low maintenance one? Long lasting paints are easy to apply, easy to clean and last a lot longer than traditional ones.

Your front door is the part of your home that is seen most often by visitors, so if it is old, worn or in poor condition it is important to replace it. When choosing a new door, make sure to pick a colour and style that fits in well with your property’s design and colouring.

Hanging a new door can take a few hours, so make sure to allow enough time to fit it properly before it gets dark. If you have never fitted a door before, you may want to consult your local locksmiths to check that the locks are all working on it correctly.

To tie the style of your house together, you could consider repainting or staining your window sills and garage door to match the colour of your new door.

If you have the budget to replace your roof, it might be a good idea to look into it. Property roofs are often forgotten about, but an old and scruffy roof can bring the whole tone of the property down. Have a look online to find the best prices for replacing your roof with a modern alternative, preferably a low maintenance one
