Summer Styling: A Mans Guide to Summer Fashion

Updating our summer wardrobe is a burden. Saturday afternoons are for lazing around the house, or spending time with friends in a bar. They certainly weren’t made for shopping. So, when we finally make the bold and brave decision to hit the shops (that are busy, crowded awful places in the main) we then have to decide what we want to buy. The issue, for me, is that everything (and consequently everyone) ends up looking the same. If you, like me, are in need of some innovative inspiration with your wardrobe then look no further. Forget to hit the shops this weekend and do your summer shopping online.

Jeans are a wardrobe mainstay. They have to be. Wearing trousers and suits all week does nothing for me, so being able to wear jeans on the weekend is a godsend. There are many different styles of jeans to suit men of all shapes and sizes:

  • Boot cut
  • Straight cut
  • Slim fit
  • Skinny

So, even if you’re not a floppy haired pop prince with the hips of a child, you can still find a pair of jeans that are suitable for you. Stick to classic and timeless dark blue denim. It epitomises style and rarely dates. Avoid bright blue jeans ala Clarkson. You want to look the epitome of smart, you do not want to look like your dad.

Great quality fashion forward clothing for summer can be sought, and you can avoid the shops too.

In the words of Abraham Simpson ‘he wore sneakers for sneaking’ which may well be true, but if you are looking at comfortable summer footwear, you need to opt for the classic canvas sneaker. Canvas shoes are great for summer as they allow your feet to breathe. Vans are completely 2013, so if you are looking for a fresh alternative footwear solution this summer, aim for Etnies or Fred Perry canvas trainers. You’ll be looking fly in no time.

No self respecting man will be seen dead in a vest so ensure that you are looking cool in a t-shirt or polo neck. There are a wide range of t-shirts that are perfect for summer ranging from graphic tees to t-shirts sporting famous celebrities past and present. If you want something a little edgier opt for a retro polo shirt. Lyle and Scott and Fred Perry are the masters of cool  polo necks. They are a little pricier than your average polo neck, but can you really put a price on style?

The perfect eyewear to hide the beer garden hangover is a radical pair of sunglasses. Opt for classic metal frames in gold and silver tones with dark brown lenses to be bang on trend for summer 2014. Aviators are still huge this year, but this year they have been updated for spring/summer 2014 and have ombre brown lenses instead of the traditional flat brown. You can protect your peepers from the summer sun and look effortlessly cool. Plus, all the ladies love a man in shades.

Summer is just around the corner and is giving you the perfect opportunity to update your wardrobe. Shop online to avoid queues, giving you free time to laze around in the beer garden.
