If your house is on the market and your thoughts are turning to the day you move, it’s time to start preparing. You need a plan in place, and these simple tricks will help make your move much easier.
Color Coordinate and Number Your Boxes
Everyone needs an efficient and sensible coding system when moving house. If you don’t use one, you’ll regret it when it comes to unpacking all those boxes and you don’t know what is in each. Making a code doesn’t have to be difficult though, just use your common sense.
Choose a range of colors and assign a color to each room in your house. This makes things much easier when you arrive in your new home because you can tell the movers to put, for example, the boxes with purple on them in the kitchen, etc. You could also number them and write up a corresponding list so that you know exactly what is in each box.
Don’t Leave Packing to the Last Minute
Moving can be stressful, and it’s made even more stressful if you’re not properly prepared when the day of the move arrives. Be as prepared as possible, that means packing up all your possessions in advance.
You’d be surprised at the amount of people that are still doing their packing as the removal van arrives on the drive. Of course, there are few things that you need up until the last minute. But those things should be as few as possible, just pack them in a bag as you’re leaving.
Use Professional Movers
Moving house by yourself is not a good idea if you ask me. It’s much more manageable if you have professional movers by your side making things move faster and more efficiently. All that heavy lifting is better done by someone else too!
Make sure you find a moving company with a good reputation too though. Ask friends who have moved recently for recommendations. You don’t want to be stuck with a moving company that isn’t careful and diligent in moving your possessions.
Stay in Contact with the Estate Agent
It’s something we hope never happens to us, but house sales can fall through at the very last minute. This is one of the perils of buying a house as part of a property chain, and it’s unavoidable, unfortunately.
That’s why you need to make sure that your estate agent can contact you throughout the day in case anything does go wrong. If you don’t hear anything from them, it’s a good idea to check in with them by phone at some point in the day.
Don’t Let the Stress Overwhelm You
Keeping calm on the day of the move is the best advice I can give you. There’s no sense in letting yourself get stressed; it will only make the day a lot longer and a lot more difficult to deal with. Stay calm and rational, no matter how stressful the situation gets.
These simple tricks will turn a stressful move into a smooth and easy one!
