Mixing business with pleasure isn’t always an easy feat, particularly if you’ve got a tedious trip on the horizon that you’re not really looking forward to. While traveling for business may have seemed like an exciting idea when you first started out, after a few long flights and hours spent in monotonous hotel rooms, the fun does start to wear off. Here are a few quick tips to help bring the joy back into business travel, so you can enjoy the time away while taking care of business.
Take A Look Around
Even if you’re only at your destination for a day or two and are traveling by yourself, take the time to get out of your hotel room and explore. Make sure that any minute spent outside of meetings is used wisely- that means more time roaming the streets and less time sat in front of the hotel TV with room service. Hire a tour guide if you feel uncomfortable and take a look around at what the area has to offer- you never know what interesting sights might be uncovered.
Phone A Friend
If your business trip is taking you to a city where an old college buddy is currently working; don’t be shy. Pick up the phone and give them a call, even if it’s been a few years since you last spoke. It could be a great opportunity to re-connect reminisce, but at the very least it’ll give you some company for the evening.
Relax And Unwind
For some of us, business trips can be a stressful prospect. If you’ve got some intimidating meetings booked and things feel a little hectic at work, the trip could give you the chance to unwind in an unfamiliar place, like a mini-vacation for the night. If you’re feeling really tense and stressed out, feel free to spend the night holed up in the hotel hot tub with a good book and some funny movies. If the hotel offers spa services, book yourself a massage and give yourself some serious time off.
Get Some Tips
If you’re in a foreign city for a few days and have no clue how to fill your time, don’t be afraid to ask the concierge or some friendly locals for tips on the best things to do in the area. You could find yourself eating a delicious meal at a strange restaurant or relaxing in a beautiful park that you never would have found otherwise. It’s a business trip, sure, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun.
