If those airport fast food meals and nights at the hotel bar are starting to pile on the pounds, try out these trips for staying fit while you travel.
Book The Right Hotel
Picking the right hotel can make a major difference to your traveling fitness levels. If it doesn’t totally bust your budget, a hotel with a gym and pool is the perfect choice for fitness junkies on the road. Even a tiny hotel gym will give you the opportunity to work out first thing in the morning before you head off to meetings, and a few laps in the pool can be the perfect way to unwind after a stressful day. It definitely beats a beer in the bar as far as your waistline is concerned.
Hit The Sidewalk
If the gym isn’t an option, there’s still no excuse not to stay in shape while you travel. Bring your running shoes and hit the sidewalk every morning for an early bird run- it’ll wake you up for the business day ahead and keep your body in peak condition. Make sure you have the right clothes and shoes so you’ll have no reason not to head out when the sun rises.
If running isn’t your style and there’s no gym or pool available to help you stick to your workout routine, improvise with some home exercises in your hotel room. Functional fitness moves are ideal for this sort of situation- we’re talking push ups, crunches, squats and jumping jacks. As long as you work up a bit of a sweat and keep your muscles moving on most of the days that you’re traveling, your fitness shouldn’t be negatively affected by the time spent away from the gym.
All that time spent sitting in airports and lounging in hotel rooms can really destroy your diet plans if you let it. Plan ahead and pack health snacks, protein bars and shakes to keep your diet on track while you’re away. High protein snacks will help keep your blood sugar levels stable and stave off those sweet treat cravings- which will hopefully help you avoid that pre-flight McDonalds.
