Blending masculine decorating styles with comfort and budget

Your home can say a lot about you as a person if you take some time to plan how it will look as well as what first impression it will give when you have visitors. Taking pride in your home is important because where and how you live can help develop not only your own personality but will also influence how other people see you, whether family, friends or casual acquaintances.

That pride can be reflected in the interior design of your home, not only making it stylish and comfortable but also stamping your own personality on your living spaces so they say, “this is me”. Living in a place that reflects your personality will give you a sense of enjoyment and enable you to relax more easily, especially after a tough day at work.

So, what can you do to blend masculine decorating styles that will ensure your comfort but are also within a reasonable budget? Here are some ideas for you to consider and perhaps try.

Start with a plan and a budget

Planning how to decorate your rooms will give you a clear picture of how you want to move things forward, and as you plan, consider the costs and draw up a budget. You don’t have to spend a fortune on decorating but there are some items of furniture that are worth spending a little more on, such as the sofa, chairs and beds, so you get plenty of wear out of them without needing to replace them as frequently.

Think through what is essential and what you could add later if your budget won’t run to it all in one go. Decide what you think you can do yourself, such as painting walls, putting up shelves or varnishing a wooden floor.

Creating the perfect bedroom

This is the place where you want to relax in comfort but it’s also the space where you can bring out elements of your lifestyle. Your bedroom should leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated in the morning, so choose a bed with a dark color – black exudes an air of solid masculinity – and use wardrobes with mirrored doors to increase the room’s sense of space. A chair or two, colors to either match or be a sympathetic contrast to the bed, add another sense of comfort with functionality.

Luxurious living space

If you want to make a statement about your style and personality, your living room is a perfect place to start. It’s usually the first room a visitor will see but it’s also a place for you to spend your own down time. If you like a contemporary feel for your space, then choose furniture that is well-designed to look different but still has the all-important comfort zone for relaxing. You might want to use striking and contrasting colors, and a wooden floor with a vibrant rug can lift the whole atmosphere of a room.

Consider your window coverings too. Blinds may be a little too functional – sometimes better for a kitchen – so look at full height shutters to add a real touch of style. With adjustable louvered slats and able to be made to fit all shapes and sizes of windows, you get instant control over how much or how little external light you want to have.

Going minimalist

The great thing about working out how you want to decorate your home is the range of choice available, and one of these is to go minimalist. Minimalism is all about living with less whilst still keeping your masculine style aesthetic, convenient and comfortable.

You can bring minimalism into any room in your home, and if you’re an inveterate hoarder then it may not be the style for you; however, if you like to pare things back and create uncluttered living and sleeping places, think about creating crisp clear lines with your furniture and fittings. It doesn’t need to be complex but you will need a good eye. It’s useful to get some examples of what you could do by exploring some interior design websites and finding a few cool DIY projects for your house. Going back to your window coverings, wooden shutters work very well to help create that minimalist feel.

If you have books or CDs you want to display, choose the ones that are important to you so the room doesn’t feel cluttered.

Be confident

Decorating can be a challenge, but if you plan well and add little personal touches to the spaces you work on you’ll create a masculine decorating style without sacrificing comport or breaking the bank.
