If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you may remember a piece, a couple of months ago, on situations in which you should contact a lawyer. Well, following on from that, I’m here to talk about how you should go about hiring a lawyer. It’s not as easy as you think; it’s a process that requires lots of thought. A lot can be on the line when you hire a lawyer, so you have to get it right. Here are three key things to consider if you want to find the perfect lawyer:
How Much Do They Charge?
Most people think that hiring a lawyer will cost a large amount of money. This is down to the fact that lawyers are generally very well paid. But, this could be because they work a lot throughout the year, it might not be because they’re expensive. Having said that, sometimes hiring a lawyer can be expensive, it depends on what you’re hiring them for. Lawyers that work in business law tend to charge a lot for their services. Also, there are some lawyers out there that work on a ‘no win no fee’ basis. I’d always recommend you look out for this when you’re hiring a lawyer. This means that if they don’t win the case for you, you don’t have to pay anything. A clause like this is so helpful because you know you won’t be wasting any money..

Know What Speciality You’re Looking For
There are various lawyers in the world and some specialise in certain things. You do have lawyers that try and work in a general way and cover all aspects of the law. But, commonly you’ll look for a lawyer that specialises in the area you need help in. For example, if you get injured at work, you’ll be looking for a firm that covers injury lawyer, like Zaner Harden lawyers. If you’re preparing for a court trial, you may need a lawyer that specialises in capital law. Depending on what you need a lawyer for, find the specific one for you. It’s not wise to hire an injury lawyer if you need to get a divorce; it just wouldn’t work.
Find Out How Much Experience They Have
Whenever you’re looking to hire someone you should find out how experienced they are. But, I find this particularly important when you’re looking for a lawyer. You’ll want a lawyer with years of experience and a high success rate. That’s the key here; they need to be successful and experienced. You could find a lawyer that’s been in practice for a decade but has only won a third of their cases. This isn’t a very good track record, can you really trust them to win your case? Similarly, you could find one that has a 100% success rate, but they’ve only been in practice for a year and had three cases. It’s hard to tell if they’re good because they don’t have a load of experience, that record could easily go down to 50% after another three cases. Look for a combination of experience and success. Of course, this is all advice, it’s totally up to you if you want to chance your arm at an inexperienced lawyer.
